It would seem that our local thieves have decided that mugging people
is too slow and are now taking whole ATMs.

As a former credit-union vice president, I can say that robbing financial institutions because "that's where the money is" isn't worth the pay out. The average bank or CU never carries more than $20,000 to $40,000 dollars cash and the same's true of their ATMs. But robbing a federal reserve institution lands you on InterPol. Hardly worth yielding yourself less than the value of a hotwired Hummer. Check out the videos of outdoor stand-alone ATMs that get clear-cut chained and yanked out. Funny stuff. One of ours was later found inside someone's UofU dorm room.
